Photos Of The Rock Etched On Glass


⭕ The three bronze tone photos on glass were done by my uncle who lived in Morro Bay,
likely done in the very late 50s or early 60s. His life was in the photo processing business in Seattle.
He opened Seattles first color photo processing plant. I worked there after school until he sold out, retired, and moved to Morro Bay.

The pictures are 8 x 10. As I understand from the internet, the process was invented in the 1800s and was used for making negatives until plastic film began to be used. Glass etched photos can be positives or negatives. Positives seem to be more rare from what I could find on the internet.

The photos are etched on the back of the glass from the viewing side, then I believe positives have a coating of some kind over the etching. These appear to be positives, not negatives, based on the objects in the picture looking natural and the bronze type coating on the back.

Two are in excellent condition, one has a small chip at an edge which would be covered when framed and a small scratch of about one inch in the coating. It seems that can be repaired easily as it is on the back. If they were framed and hung with art light showering down, they are outstanding. That is, of course, buyers choice.
