Ascor Ascorlight QC-8 Electronic Flash System - Power Supply & Light
This flash unit features an 800 watt-second power supply capable of recycling in one second on a practically continuous basis. Four outlets for operating one to four flash heads. Three switch selectable power levels are available: full, half, and quarter power. The unit will recycle once per second at 800 watt-seconds, twice per second at 400 watt-seconds, and four times per second at 200 watt-seconds. A built-in modeling light control allows stepless adjustment of up to 1000 watts of quartz halogen modeling lamps. A ready light is included with the push to flash button for testing or open flash operation. The charging circuit is protected against overloads and abnormally high ambient temperatures by a circuit breaker and a thermal switch. The QC-8 is constructed with a heavy duty steel case with an epoxy paint. The power supply can be used either vertically with or without an included accessory stand mounting bracket or horizontally. All controls are clearly marked for ease of operation. Built-in folding handle can be used as a stand in horizontal position. Comes with a caster wheel base with heavy-duty ball casters which allows ease of movement within the studio, especially when used with one light on the telescoping stand post which slides into the stand mounting bracket attached to the power supply. The QC-8 Flash Head features a modular design with a built-in bracket allowing for the use of any type of umbrella without additional accessory brackets. A practically silent, built-in fan keeps the operating temperature of all components at a safe level even at maximum power and recycle rate. Both the flash tube and the modeling lamp are of the plug-in type for ease of replacement even in the field. All metal parts of the light are grounded for safety. The 20 power cable to the light is heavy duty, yet flexible and is vinyl clad. The massive connectors are designed to handle the high power and fast recycle rates without burning out. A modeling light on-off switch is located in the light for individual control of each light. The light, like the power supply, is finished in a tough epoxy paint. The light mounts on the included telescoping stand with 3/4 top stud. Constructed of tubular aluminum telescoping sections, and positive locking collars. Three sections with two extensions. Rises to maximum height of 8 and collapses down to 39. Comes with a 5 aluminum reflector with 160° coverage. It provides the proper beam spread for optimum, even distribution of the light into the umbrella. QC-8 reflectors are bayonet mounted for ease of interchanging. QC-8 FLASH TUBES & MODELING LAMP
The standard modeling lamp is a 250-watt, quartz halogen, bayonet base lamp. It is rated at 3000° Kelvin and 2000 hour life. The flashtube is a plug-in circular, quartz with short flash duration and a pyrex safety shield. It is rated for use up to 2,400 watt-seconds and has a nominal color temperature of 5800° Kelvin. This unit comes with a 44 off-white wide-angle umbrella which mounts directly to the flash head by inserting the shaft into the built-in bracket. The umbrella provides soft shadowless illumination. Comes with power cord and original instruction manual. Does NOT come with sync cord. The Ascorlight Electronic Flash Systems were top of the line in their day and built to last. They were the workhorses of the industry, and many professional photographers relied on them. These units were in particular high demand by studios that did pour and splash shots because they could stop any motion. They produce gorgeous light with incredibly short flash duration. CONDITION
The Ascorlight QC-8 was personally owned by my father, who was a freelance professional photographer for 20+ years in New York, and had a fully equipped professional darkroom. It was gently used, well cared for, and is in like new condition. It was used on less than ten location shoots. In excellent working condition.
