Original Joe Bowler Nude Oil Painting Fine Art


⭕ Gorgeous signed and dated original oil painting by Joe Bowler, celebrated artist of the American Southeast. It is a 3/4 back/side study of a nude woman, draped with shawl, wearing a hat. The piece was purchased from Mr Bowler by my mother in late 83/early 84. She then gave it to me prior to her death. Frame is original.

The work was appraised by Laurence A. Triplett, M.A., A.S.A. (then of Charlotte, NC) in 1998 for $14,000. The painting comes with & will be shipped in a custom-made wooden crate with foam padding designed and built for it by an art conservator at the Ackland Art Museum in Chapel Hill, NC. Buyer pays shipping/freight.

The dimensions of the painting are: with frame, 31 x 38, approx 24x 30 without.

About the artist:
Joe Bowler (1928-2017) became a professional artist at age 18 and sold his first magazine story illustration three years later. His work included cover illustrations for most major magazines from 1948 to the 1970s. Elected to the Society of Illustrators Hall of Fame in 1992. He left New York and illustrating in 1972 for Hilton Head Island, SC and became well-known for his luminous paintings of nudes. He had incredible mastery of light, color, and composition. He told my mother (in conversation) that the model in this piece was his favorite. His recent death will cause his paintings to increase in value.
